Congo-Brazzaville is thirsting for life. Please help us donate 80 wells supplying clean, drinkable water!
Water is actually plentiful in Congo-Brazzaville, but it is not drawn from the numerous water-tables under the ground, it is collected on the surface. It is therefore dirty and smelly, but worst of all, it is a vector for various types of deadly diseases. It causes typhus, cholera, malaria, dysentery, hepatitis, gastroenteritis, skin and eye infections, parasitosis. Those worst affected are children.
Fr. Abel, the guide who accompanied Fr. Danilo on his trip, is of the Diocese of Nkayi, one of the poorest in the country.
Life is a daily challenge for Fr. Abel and his people: they must face suffering, deprivation and hardships.
About 70 percent of the population live on less that 1 dollar a day, and life expectancy is about 45 years. 126 children per 1,000 die within the first year of life; 79 per 1,000 within the first five years.
Now all this is aggravated by an emergency: the lack of drinkable water.
St Anthony’s Charities has decided to lay the axe to the roots. It is determined to clean up and renovate existing wells, and to build a series of new ones so that everyone may have access to clean drinkable water.
Access to clean water will change life for the better in this community; they will be able to hope again, plan ahead, and forge their own destiny.
This community, through your help, will find salvation: in its schools, clinics and farms.
